NHL: an 11th victory in 12 games for Winnipeg, which wins 7 to 4 over Tampa

Mark Scheifele, Nikolaj Ehlers and Vladislav Namestnikov each had a goal and an assist, and the Winnipeg Jets defeated the Tampa Lightning 7-4 on Sunday afternoon.

The best team in the NHL at the start of the season, the Jets added their 11th victory in twelve games. Their only loss came Monday, at the hands of the Toronto Maple Leafs.

In the loss, Lightning captain Victor Hedman joined former teammate Steven Stamkos for second in franchise history by amassing his 582nd assist.

The Swedish guard from Tampa will join Martin St-Louis at the top of the hierarchy with six other assists.

A goal from Dylan Samberg at 7:38 of the third period made the difference for Winnipeg, who had just allowed the equalizing goal (4-4) to Nikita Kucherov, 47 seconds before.

Ehlers and Cole Perfetti completed the scoring in an abandoned net, Jon Cooper’s troop having removed Jonas Johansson thanks to a sixth skater.

Alex Iaffalo and Logan Stanley also hit the target for the Manitoba team. By hitting the target into an empty net, Nikolaj Ehlers overtook Frans Nielsen as the Dane with the most points in the NHL with 474.

The response from the Lightning (7-5-0), in addition to Kucherov’s tenth goal of the season, came from Brandon Hagel, Brayden Point and Mitchell Chaffee.

However, Point’s game was stopped after 3:47 of playing time, due to an injury suffered during the first period.

The Lightning offered no details on the nature of the team’s No. 1 center’s injury, but Point appeared to have some groin discomfort shortly before returning to the locker room.

Boldy breaks the backs of the Leafs

Matt Boldy converted a breakaway at 2:14 in overtime and the Minnesota Wild beat the Toronto Maple Leafs, 2-1.

Defeated goalkeeper Anthony Stolarz made 31 saves, four more than Filip Gustavsson.

Ryan Hartman was the other scorer for the Wild, who are undefeated in their last three games.

William Nylander fought back for the Maple Leafs; he leads the club with nine goals this season.

Nylander scored the Leafs’ first power play goal on the road this season, after 18 misses.

Hyman gets a taste for it after a slow start

Zach Hyman scored with a clever backhand fake midway through the third period, and the Edmonton Oilers defeated the Calgary Flames 4-2.

The visitors had a numerical advantage when Ryan Nugent-Hopkins spotted Hyman at the edge of the zone.

No. 18 of the Oilers, author of 54 goals in 2023-2024, took down Dan Vladar before lodging the puck in the upper part.

Leon Draisaitl and Jeff Skinner also threaded the needle for Edmonton (6-5-1), which responded well with two victories since the 6-1 correction suffered in Columbus at the start of the week.

Ironically, after starting the season without hitting the target in his last ten games, Hyman has two goals in his two most recent games, while his captain and linemate Connor McDavid is out for a few weeks.

Draisaitl had a goal and two assists. The German Oilers winger now has 16 points on his record (9-7) in 12 games.

Stuart Skinner stopped 28 pucks in front of the Edmonton cage.

With the win, the Oilers tied the Battle of Alberta 1-1 this season. The Flames won the first duel 4 to 1 on October 13. The third and final Alberta duel will take place on March 29.

Bedard treats himself to duck

Connor Bedard had a three-assist night and the Chicago Blackhawks beat the Anaheim Ducks 4-2.

Bedard was an accomplice in the nets of Isaac Phillips, Seth Jones and Ryan Donato. The young player now has nine assists to his name this season. It was the 11th game of two or more assists for Bedard, who tied Bobby Hull for second all-time on the Blackhawks as a player under the age of 20. Patrick Kane holds the record with 13.

The other scorer in the Hawks camp is Teuvo Teravainen. Taylor Hall also stood out in the victory with two assists.

Seth Jones made it 3-0 Hawks late in the second period on a power play. Anaheim showed signs of life offensively midway through the third period through Brock McGinn. Mason McTavish was the last to beat Arvid Soderblom. The goalkeeper finished his evening with 37 saves to his record.

Lukas Dostal stopped 25 pucks in the defeat. He stood out on five occasions in front of Bedard who has scored three goals since the start of the campaign. He has 12 points in 13 games.
