30 minutes before the start of the Brazilian Grand Prix, we now know more about the consequences of qualifying.
Let’s start with the good news: Aston Martin F1 managed to repair the two AMR24s of Fernando Alonso and Lance Stroll. Both cars will be on the grid. Half good news for Carlos Sainz, he will participate in the race but will start from the pits.
Finally, as expected, Alex Albon will be withdrawn and only Franco Colapinto will be able to participate in the Grand Prix for Williams F1.
Team principal James Vowles admits “It’s a heartbreaking day for the team. We are here to race and no one wants to find themselves in this situation. The most important thing is that all the drivers who had incidents in qualifying are fine, including Alex and Franco.”
“Despite the best efforts of our talented and hard-working team, there simply was not enough time to repair Alex’s car in time for the Grand Prix. It’s a bitter pill to swallow in the end of a difficult Grand Prix hat-trick, especially when both drivers showed incredible pace this morning. We will focus on maximizing this afternoon with Franco and putting on a show for the incredible fans here. in Brazil.”
Thanks to this package and the departure of Sainz in the pits, Max Verstappen will therefore be in 15th position on the starting grid, i.e. 2 places gained.
