Jesper Fredberg left RSC Anderlecht and was replaced by Olivier Renard. The Sports CEO did not obtain the expected results, but what about his internal collaboration with the rest of the sports unit?
Olivier Renard was made official this week as Jesper Fredberg’s successor at RSC Anderlecht. If the name of the new sporting director of Mauve & Blanc was surprising, the departure of the Dane seemed inevitable, and instability is still the great problem of the RSCA.
Eddy Vandaelehe worked for 29 years at Sporting and was therefore able to see heads pass by. Last summer, however, he left Lotto Park for KV Kortrijk, who face Anderlecht this Sunday. And he doesn’t have very good memories of his work with Fredberg.
“You can say what you want about Peter Verbeke, but I worked very well with him,” says Vandaele in an interview with Newspaper. “Scouts were big when he was in charge.” Which is no longer the case, it seems.
Eddy Vandaele was among those who recommended the recruitment of Josh Cullen. But Kompany was not initially convinced. Another nice move from Vandaele: “Peter Verbeke asked me if I thought we should pay 5 million for Zirkzee, and I said yes. But since Fredberg took over…”
Anderlecht’s DNA disappearing?
Fredberg actually had very little contact with his scouts, says the former Anderlecht recruiter. “In six months, he only spoke with us once, when Mauve TV was in his office. He never listened to the scouts and opted for players from his Danish network,” says Eddy Vandaele.
His relations with Wouter Vandenhaute were also strained. “I often passed him in the corridor without him speaking to me. The DNA of the club is disappearing. Anderlecht can consider themselves lucky to have Coucke.”
He therefore chose to leave himself, after 29 years of good and loyal service. “After ‘working’ for six months under Fredberg, I wanted to leave rather than be fired like all the other former players at the club. I’m very happy at Kortrijk.”
