“Verbruggen came very close to a transfer to a top European club”

After shining at Anderlecht, Bart Verbruggen is now delighting Brighton. At just 22 years old, the Dutch goalkeeper is one of the best in his position in the Premier League.

Barça thought of him

Last summer, the Dutch international could even have landed a top transfer. Indeed, Relevo reports that FC Barcelona thought about signing Verbruggen after the serious injury of Marc-André Ter Stegen. He was at the top of the Blaugrana list ahead of players like Mio Backhaus (Werder Bremen), Alvaro Valles (UD Las Palmas), Joan Garcia (Spanish Barcelona) and Diego Kochen (Barça B).

In the end, the Catalan club decided to call on Wojciech Szczęsny. The Polish goalkeeper agreed to come out of retirement to take on this challenge. However, it is agreed that the former Juventus goalkeeper will stop at the end of the season.

Diogo Costa

From now on, Barça’s new priority is called Diogo Costa. The FC Porto goalkeeper is considered one of the best in his position in Europe. During the last Euro, he impressed a lot of people. The Catalan club is also ready to break the bank for the 25-year-old goalkeeper because the club thinks he is the ideal successor to Ter Stegen. According to Transfermarkt, Costa’s current value stands at €45 million.
