Léandre Kuavita (Standard) scored points against Lyra-Lierse: “I made my hole, and I try to dig, dig and dig again”

Standard were scared against Lyra – Lierse, but qualified for the next round: “We knew how to stay calm”

He did it again in extra time, delivering a cross to Aiden O’Neill for the decisive goal. Léandre Kuavita scored points and could take advantage of them to win a starting place on Saturday against Sint-Truiden. Especially since one of his competitors, Isaac Price, stood out for his clumsiness and his losses of the ball, one of which directly led to an opponent’s goal. “If I will be the holder? I think I scored points, as I try to do every day. We will see what happens next and what the coach decides. I just tell myself that I have to give it my all as soon as I get playing time, whether it’s five or twenty minutes. I made my hole and I’m trying to dig, dig and dig (sic).”

He owes this new status to his qualities, which correspond perfectly to what Ivan Leko asks for. The coach wants to see players who do not count their efforts and know how to play quickly vertically. “I feel good when I can plan ahead and go shopping. I like having space in front of mehe said. The coach knows how to handle me. I won’t sulk if I find myself on the bench. He tells me I’m doing good workouts. I follow the process. I know he trusts me.”

The Standard-Lyra-Lierse bulletins: Epolo as the savior, Kuavita the decisive man and the disappointment Price

After the meeting, Ivan Leko was full of praise for him: “He’s a top player. He is underestimated. He started the season very well. He made a few mistakes against Lyra-Lierse, so what? He’s a youngster from the Academy, we have to support him but I’m convinced that he totally has the Standard profile. I’m happy he scored and gave an assist.”

To the point of gaining a more regular place in the starting eleven?
