Thursday in the NHL | Sidney Crosby gives Penguins victory in overtime against Ducks

(Pittsburgh) Sidney Crosby scored two goals, including one in overtime, to help the Pittsburgh Penguins win 2-1 against the Anaheim Ducks on Thursday.

The Penguins captain first tied the game 1-1 in the third period by deflecting a shot from defenseman Matt Grzelcyk.

Then, in overtime, Crosby took advantage of a turnover in Ducks territory to get alone in front of Lukas Dostal, whom he thwarted with several feints.

Despite being 37 years old, the Cole Harbor native center collected 12 points, including three goals, in his first 12 games this season.

Alex Killorn scored the only goal for the Ducks. Trevor Zegras and Cutter Gauthier had assists.

Alex Nedeljkovic stopped 22 pucks to get his first victory of the campaign. Dostal, for his part, made no less than 44 saves.

Bruins 2 – Hurricanes 8

Martin Necas scored a goal and totaled four points, helping the Carolina Hurricanes to an easy 8-2 victory over the Boston Bruins in Raleigh.

Jack Roslovic and Andrei Svechnikov scored doubles in the victory. Svechnikov added an assist. Dmitry Orlov, Sean Walker and Jesperi Kotkaniemi also threaded the needle. Pyotr Kochetkov only had to stop 13 shots to win.

The Massachusetts club’s response came from the sticks of Brad Marchand and Hampus Lindholm.

Jeremy Swayman allowed six goals on 22 shots before being replaced by Joonas Korpisalo. The latter stopped 13 of the 15 shots thrown in his direction.

Oilers 5 – Predators 1

Leon Draisaitl had a goal and two assists to help the Edmonton Oilers defeat the Nashville Predators 5-1.

Viktor Arvidsson and Zach Hyman scored their first goals of the campaign. In both cases, these were highly anticipated nets.

Corey Perry was the other scorer for the Oilers, who bounced back from their bitter 6-1 loss to the Columbus Blue Jackets on Monday.

Filip Forsberg responded for the Predators, who lost a second game in a row.

Calvin Pickard stopped 26 shots in the victory while his opposite number Juuse Saros made 24 saves.

Kraken 1 – Maple Leafs 4

William Nylander scored twice in the second period and the Maple Leafs defeated the Seattle Kraken 4-1 in Toronto.

Injured at the start of the season, goalkeeper Joseph Woll signed his first victory of the season by making 24 saves. It was his second start in 2024-25.

Matthew Knies had previously scored in the first period, so the local favorites built a three-goal lead in this match. Auston Matthews completed the scoring in an empty cage and the Maple Leafs won a second game in a row.

Eeli Tolvanen was the lone scorer for the Kraken, who are 5-5-1 this season. Joey Daccord was targeted 28 times, yielding three times.

Blues 1 – Flyers 2

Bobby Brink scored with three minutes left in the third period to give the Philadelphia Flyers a 2-1 victory over the St. Louis Blues.

Garnet Hathaway, with her first goal of the season in the first period, gave the Flyers the lead, who won a second game in a row for the first time this season.

Samuel Ersson stopped 20 shots to get his third victory in three games.

Nathan Walker scored the only goal for the Blues, who lost a third consecutive duel. Quebecer Zachary Bolduc got an assist on the sequence.

Jordan Binnington made 19 saves in the loss.
