Bruins: Brad Marchand refutes rumors

Boston Bruins captain Brad Marchand is not close to having a new deal in his pocket.

This weekend, the 36-year-old striker refuted rumors that he was close to signing a contract extension. Many argued that the veteran was going to get a new three-year deal.

Asked about it, Marchand simply said that it was “false” and that he did not like “talking about things regarding contracts in the media.”

The Halifax native could become an unrestricted free agent next summer, currently signing an eight-year, $49 million contract signed in September 2016.

So far this season, Marchand has one goal and five assists for six points in nine games.

Drafted by the Bruins in the third round (71st overall) of the 2006 amateur auction, the Nova Scotia athlete has never worn a uniform other than that of Boston in the National League. He collected 935 points in 1,038 career games, in addition to winning the Stanley Cup in 2010-2011.
