WASHINGTON — Connor McMichael scored a double to lead the Washington Capitals to their fifth straight victory, 6-3 over the Philadelphia Flyers at Capital One Arena on Wednesday.
Pierre-Luc Dubois scored a goal and two assists for the Capitals (5-1-0), who beat the Flyers 4-1 in Philadelphia on Tuesday. Rasmus Sandin and Dylan McIlrath had two assists, while Logan Thompson made 26 saves for Washington, which held a 4-0 lead in the second period.
Matvei Michkov and Owen Tippett each had a goal and an assist for the Flyers (1-5-1), who suffered a sixth straight defeat. Jamie Drysdale had two assists, and Ivan Fedotov made 20 saves.
Michkov cut the Flyers’ deficit to 4-3 at 6:36 of the third period by beating Thompson with a wrist shot through traffic during a 4-on-3 advantage.
Dubois, however, scored into an empty net at 17:48 to restore the two-goal lead, then Alex Ovechkin did the same at 18:50 to increase his team’s lead to 6-3.
Taylor Raddysh gave the Capitals a 1-0 lead at 4:40 of the first period by redirecting a McIlrath pass shot from the right point.
Nic Dowd made it 2-0 at 2:49 of the middle period. He accepted a pass from Sandin before beating Fedotov with a wrist shot from the slot.
McMichael made it three goals at 4:04, lifting a backhand shot over Fedotov’s left pad on a breakaway. He then deflected a Trevor van Riemsdyk shot to make it 4-0 Capitals at 7:16.
Travis Konecny put the Flyers on the board at 12:04, beating Thompson over the left shoulder with a shot from deep in the right circle on the power play.
Tippett closed the lead to 4-2 at 16:16 by slotting a wrist shot between Thompson’s pads from the left circle.
