Rublev and Ruud headline the Swiss Indoors

Still in the running for a place at the Turin Masters, Andrey Rublev and Casper Ruud are the main headliners – and the only two top 10s in the running – at the Swiss Indoors in Basel.

But the spotlight will also be on the three Swiss present in the main draw.

Respectively semi-finalist and quarter-finalist in Stockholm this week, Stan Wawrinka and Dominic Stricker both managed for the first time this year to win two matches in a row. They obviously hope to confirm this renewed form in front of their public.

Third Swiss in the running, Jérôme Kym won his ticket by beating Basel junior Henry Bernet (ATP 940) in the 2nd round of qualifying. The Aargau native, winner of two Challenger titles this year, dreams of reaching a new level during his first match in an ATP tournament.

Jérôme Kym will challenge Ugo Humbert (ATP 16) on Monday from 2 p.m. As for Stan Wawrinka and Dominic Stricker, they will face Adrian Mannarino (ATP 56) and Tallon Griekspoor (ATP 37) respectively in the first round. The Bernese left-hander, quarter-finalist last year, is playing big: he puts 90 points into play, after having gleaned 50 in Stockholm.

Five places to be allocated for the Masters

Seeded No. 1 in the table, Andrey Rublev will battle it out with Portuguese Nuno Borges for his entry into the running. The No. 2 seed Casper Ruud will face Spaniard Roberto Bautista Agut in the first round. The Russian and the Norwegian are respectively 8th and 7th in the Race, the qualifying ranking for the Masters.

The fight for the five tickets still available for these ATP Finals will also be in full swing in Basel as in Vienna, which is also hosting an ATP 500 this week. Seeded no. 3 in the Rhine city and 12th in the Race, Stefanos Tsitsipas will have to strike a big blow, just like seed no. 4 Holger Rune.
