NHL: historic start to the season for the Winnipeg Jets

Six different players found the back of the net to help the Winnipeg Jets defeat the Pittsburgh Penguins 6-3 on Sunday afternoon.

The Jets thus sign a fifth victory in as many matches this season, a first in the history of the concession.

Vladislav Namestnikov, Kyle Connor, Mark Scheifele, Adam Lowry and Nino Niederreiter, in an empty net, hit the target for the Manitoba club. Colin Miller, Nikolaj Ehlers and Josh Morrissey had two assists.

Lars Eller continued his good start to the season with a double. Kevin Hayes scored the Penguins’ other goal.

In his first start since returning to Winnipeg, Eric Comrie had a solid start in net for the Jets with 39 saves.

Penguins head coach Mike Sullivan sent a message to his troops by leaving out Michael Bunting and Tristan Jarry for this game. Joel Blomqvist played the role of backup to Alex Nedeljkovic.

Nedeljkovic played his first game this season and gave up five times in front of the Jets’ 36 shots.

Before the game, the Jets honored Bryan Little, who signed a one-day contract with the organization to retire. A first-round pick (12th) by the Atlanta Trashers in 2006, Little ranks second in franchise history in games played (843), third in assists (304) and fourth in assists (304). points (521).
