Noè Ponti had failed 0”04 from the previous world record, co-held by the Brazilian Nicholas Santos and the Hungarian Szebasztian Szabo, last December during the Europeans in Romania where he had signed the hat-trick in butterfly (50/100/ 200m). He now holds the two best times in history in this discipline.

Second Swiss swimmer competing in Shanghai, Thierry Bollin also distinguished himself this weekend. The 24-year-old Bernese improved his Swiss record in the 50m backstroke on Saturday in the heats by clocking 23”09. Sunday, he finished 4th in the 100m backstroke final in 50”63, 0”53 from his best national mark.
