A new position for Raphaël Varane in Como

After the announcement of his retirement as a player, Raphaël Varane is officially appointed to the management of the Como club, where he will notably take care of training.

Raphaël Varane is officially back in the world of football. Just a few weeks after announcing his retirement as a player, the 2018 world champion will take up management functions within the Como club.

Varane joined the promoted Lombard this summer after the end of his time at Manchester United. Physical problems, particularly with his knee, led him to give up wearing the colors of the team led by Cesc Fabregas. But his Italian adventure is not over.

“I join the club development committee. I still have something to give to football, and that allows me to see another side of it.”he explained this week in L’Equipe. Varane will collaborate in particular with Osian Roberts, responsible for the development of Como 1907, and Juliette Bolon, responsible for the education program, to work on the development of the club’s youth.

Varane knows what he wants to do

“His involvement will not only benefit the players, but also the wider community through educational initiatives, explains the Italian club. By integrating academic training, leadership and professional training into youth programs, Varane aims to help young athletes prepare for life beyond football. »

Varane therefore has a fairly clear idea of his post-career, and wishes to stay in the world of football to contribute to its future. “I will at least go in the direction I want to go, he confides. Maybe I see myself more as a president than a coach at the moment, but I’m lucky enough to be able to do a lot of things that interest me. A whole world opens up to me. I’m not afraid of failure, I’ve never been afraid of it. »
