“It was a huge feeling”: Juan Bautista Pedemonte, the return of Puma to RC impatient to finally discover the Top 14

Top 14 (7th day). ASM Clermont – RC , this Saturday (4:30 p.m.)

Do you realize you are a Puma now?

I talk about this a lot with a psychologist. When I was little, I had the dream of playing for the Pumas, I watched all their matches. It’s a dream that came true.

It was the first match (of the tour against , July 6), after the first week of training. During the team meeting, I saw my photo appear with the substitutes. It was a huge feeling.

Was your family present in the stadium?

Yes, all my family and my best friends were there too. I’m from northern Argentina (Santiago del Estero) and the match was in Mendoza, 1,000 km south. They all came by car! On the pitch, I saw them in the stands. There’s nothing bigger than that, my first match in Argentina with my whole family.

It was symbolic that your first selection was against France…

Yes, that honestly was “wow”. I arrived here two years ago and now France is my second home. So playing against France it was: “Wow! »

This selection validates your choice to come to France, far from home?

Yes, in Argentina, I signed for the Jaguares, the franchise that played Super , but with covid, it left. And, I did my cruciate ligaments. I was almost a year off the field. In 2022, I contacted the RCV and we signed a contract. He opened the door for me, I am very grateful. The decision was difficult to make, it was a challenge because Vannes was in Pro D2. But it was a very good decision and I’m happy to be there.

Did you think you could play with Vannes in the Top 14 when you signed?

That was a great challenge. When we made contact, we talked about the club’s projects and we saw that it was ambitious. Since I was little, it has been a dream to play in the Top 14.

The club is not sure of remaining in the Top 14 and yet you have extended until 2027. Why?

It’s a club that opened the door for me when I was trying to get back to my level. He trusted me. And I feel good in the region at all levels: with the people who live here, in the club… There is a high-level training center. Vannes’ objective is to stay in the Top 14 and we will do everything for that. There are all the conditions for building beautiful things.

Jean-Noël Spitzer said at a press conference that you were breaking his feet to play. What state are you in before discovering the Top 14?

(Laugh). Yes, I can’t wait to play. I like to do everything 100%. There is a lot of work in training and the match is to enjoy. The best moment is when I enter the field. There is excitement to put the jersey back on, I haven’t worn it since the final (of Pro D2).

During the last interview you gave to Télégramme, you confided that it was your dream to play with Argentina. What is your next dream?

Yesterday (Wednesday), I was wondering this. I have two dreams with objectives: to be Top 14 champion and to play the World Cup with Argentina. You can have a dream but you have to make a plan to achieve it. You need to find clear goals that you can achieve.

Top 14 champion with RC Vannes. Do you think it’s possible?

If we think about reality, of course it is difficult. It’s ambitious but the idea is to always work for it, to give the maximum.
