MLB – Championship Series: The Mets rebound with a convincing victory

Pete Alonso hit a three-run homer in the first inning and the New York Mets totaled 10 runs in the first four innings Friday to beat the Los Angeles Dodgers 12-6 and extend the National League Championship Series .

The series now returns to Los Angeles with the Dodgers up 3-2.

After being corrected 8-0 and 10-2 in the first two games presented in New York, it was the Mets’ turn to sign a convincing victory. Each of the five duels in the series ended with a gap of at least four points.

Dodgers starter Jack Flaherty allowed eight runs in three innings of work. He first fell to Alonso, who slammed a 432-foot bomb to center field with Francisco Lindor and Brandon Nimmo on base with one out in the first.

Falherty had thrown seven innings in a victory in the first game of the series.

The Dodgers scored a run in the second on a bad pitch from David Peterson, but the Mets came back with five runs off Flaherty in the third.

Peterson allowed two runs in 3 2/3 innings in his first playoff start after four appearances in relief.

Ryne Stanek earned the victory after working two and a third innings in relief, allowing one run.

Edwin Diaz followed him to the mound, recording the final six outs.

Starling Marte started the push with a double good for two points. After two outs, singles by Francisco Alvarez and Nimmo and a triple by Lindor increased the Mets’ lead to 8-1. Alvarez got out of a bad situation with three hits.

Andy Pages then hit a solo home run in the fourth for the Dodgers.

The Mets then took a 10-2 lead by scoring two runs in their next at-bat on Jesse Winker’s triple and Jeff McNeil’s sacrifice fly.

The Dodgers, however, returned to the game in the next inning with Pages’ second home run of the game, a three-run slap.

Mookie Betts added a solo homer in the sixth for the Dodgers.

McNeil responded with a second sacrifice fly in the sixth and Marte completed his four-hit game with a scoring single in the eighth. Marte hit three doubles in the game.

The series continues beginning Sunday at Dodger Stadium.

Sean Manaea is expected to be the starter for the Mets after five days of rest, while the Dodgers are likely to rely on several relievers due to a pitching rotation decimated by injuries.
