We left a Stade Malherbe Caen frustrated after the defeat in the final moments against (1-2) just before the international break. Friday October 18, 2024, two weeks later, Nicolas Seube chose to modify your team’s system by aligning three central defenders. The suspension of Didi Gaucho and the injury of Yann M’Vila also forced him to see his duo again in midfield. Despite these adjustments, SM Caen failed to win even though it was counting two goals ahead at the hour mark (2-2).

Lightning by Noé Lebreton

Despite a first thrill in favor of the locals from the first seconds of the match on a ride from Damien Durand (1′), it was the Caennais who opened the scoring. Noé Lebreton manages to volley a ball poorly cleared by the Red Star defense and finds the opposite window to put Stade Malherbe on the right track (0-1, 10′).

Little in danger after the opening score, the Caennais could have scored a second goal, but Emmanuel Ntim misses his move at the far post on a corner from Lorenzo Rajot (30′). The Red Star had possession, but apart from a few corners, there was little danger on Anthony Mandréa’s goal until the break.

The Hachem exploit revives the Red Star

Not much happens at the start of the second period even if SM Caen is very happy to see Aliou Badji miss his shot when he was found alone at the penalty spot (58′). Then suddenly, the match gets carried away. First, it is Alexandre Mendy, well shifted to the left at the entrance to the area, who finds Tidiam Gomis at the far post who deceives Quentin Beunardeau and gives SM Caen two goals in advance (2-0, 63′). Nicolas Seube and Stade Malherbe seem relieved, but they have no time to rest. A few seconds later, it’s Ryad Hachem who connects superbly well in the Caen area and, with his back to the goal, finds a way to lob Anthony Mandréa to give Red Star hope (1-2, 64′).

Caen is forced to turn its back and endure the phases of possession of the premises for long minutes, but ended up breaking down. Well found at the far post, Damien Durand places his volley in the small opposite net of Anthony Mandréa to allow his team to equalize (2-2, 80′). Despite a total success (two goals scored from their only two shots on target), the Caennais still fail to win away from home (2-2, 90′).
