“I no longer believe that man walked on the Moon”: Jeremy Filosa suspended indefinitely by 98.5 FM for conspiracy comments made on the air

Radio columnist Jeremy Filosa was suspended indefinitely by 98.5 FM after he admitted on air that he adhered to the theory according to which humans have never walked on the Moon.

During Thursday’s homecoming show, hosted by Philippe Cantin, the sports journalist created immense discomfort live.

“I’m going to make a confession to you,” he said. I’m not a conspiracy theorist, but I long believed that man walked on the Moon, but I no longer believe that man walked on the Moon. (…) With everything I read today in the most recent information about the difficulties of sending rockets into space and all that, I [n’y] believe more.”

Doubtful, Philippe Cantin corrected the situation, affirming that his interlocutor read “too many uncredible websites”.

“You know that there is a whole industry that tries to deny the obvious, to sow doubts in people’s heads, who multiply bogus evidence? I find that at the moment, this phenomenon is more and more worrying, because we see it in the United States with Donald Trump, who constantly denies the evidence, who even opposes the fact checking. (…) We have been to the Moon more than once. I imagine that it has its limits in the sense of space exploration,” replied the host.

These arguments did not slow down Jeremy Filosa in his momentum. “I don’t know. We could make a whole block out of it,” he defended, immediately rebuffed again by Philippe Cantin.

A matter settled internally

The director of communications for Cogeco Media, Christine Dicaire, announced in an email that Jeremy Filosa had been removed from the airwaves for an indefinite period.

“Cogeco Media and 98.5 dissociate themselves from the comments made on the air by Jeremy Filosa during the opening of the program Le Québec neuf on October 17. His opinion is his own and, under no circumstances, do Cogeco Media and 98.5 endorse this type of denialist remarks. The analysis relating to this situation remains an internal matter.”

Jeremy Filosa, who works primarily as a sports journalist, has been employed by Cogeco Media since April 2007. Joined by The Journalhe did not want to comment on the matter.

Furthermore, in 2023, he was fired from his job at Apple , where he described Major League matches. He revealed on Patrick Lagacé’s microphone that his incendiary tweets targeting CF Montreal had caused his dismissal, since his bosses had told him that his “work was impeccable.”
