Romelu Lukaku’s idea on the Courtois-Tedesco affair absolutely does not pass: “An attack on freedom which cannot be called into question” – All football

Romelu Lukaku spoke out for the first time in a long time in a podcast from “Friends of Sports” and “Koolcast”. When he addressed the Thibaut Courtois affair, the top scorer in the history of the Devils made a statement that did not please everyone.

Thibaut Courtois and Domenico Tedesco are not very good friends. The Real Madrid goalkeeper no longer wants to play for the national team, especially not as long as the German-Italian is the coach.

A subject on which Romelu Lukaku spoke for the first time, in this podcast. “They didn’t handle the situation well. In my opinion, the federation should have eased the pressure on Thibaut and the coach.”

The Napoli striker believed that the federation should have ensured that such questions could not be asked. “Why was it not made clear during the first press conference after the incident that no questions could be asked about Thibaut Courtois and Domenico Tedesco? If a journalist had done that, he would not simply wouldn’t have been invited anymore.”

Lukaku’s idea would have been an attack on press freedom

A reaction that absolutely does not pass muster at Sportpress, the organization of Belgian sports journalists. “It is not up to the players to judge what journalists can or should ask,” general secretary Rudy Nuyens told the Newspaper.

“Romelu Lukaku is a great football player, but he would do better to concentrate on his pitch. We attach great importance to freedom of the press and this must not be called into question. All questions must be able to be asked. Players can then choose what they want to answer,” he concluded.
