Anderlecht made a big move by keeping him, but “he should score ten goals per season” – All football

According to Johan Walem, it is a good thing that Mario Stroeykens did not leave Anderlecht during the last summer transfer window. However, the Imp is capable of performing even better.

This summer, Mario Stroeykens was coveted by Ajax, but the asking price of at least fifteen million euros made the Dutch back down. “It is a coherent choice by all parties,” declared the new technical director of the ACFF, Johan Walem, in an interview with our colleagues from the Last Hour.

The former professional and coach of the U21 national team emphasizes that Yari Verschaeren is not yet at his best level and that Thorgan Hazard is still in rehabilitation. Stroeykens thus remains the only comparable player within the current core. “He is the only one with this profile available,” continues Walem.

Mario Stroeykens still needs to improve statistically

The ex-Red Devil describes Stroeykens as an intelligent young player, who has shown patience in his development into the first team. “David Hubert instructed him to play more offensively, which gives him more confidence on the pitch,” says Walem.

According to him, the young Anderlecht player benefits from the coach’s trust and is entrusted with responsibilities. “His technique and physical condition are important assets,” he confirms. “He does not hesitate to invest collectively.”

Johan Walem concludes that Stroeykens, with his good sense of the game and his ability to often make the right decisions, is an important addition for Anderlecht. “He also has a good shot, which he needs to exploit more,” adds Walem. “He must score between six and ten goals every season.”
