The former world number 1 in women’s tennis, aged 43, clarified in a video on the social network Tik Tok that she had discovered a lump on the right side of her neck in May and that an MRI had made it possible to establish that it was a branchial cyst (benign lump).

“I’m still recovering, but I’m getting better. Health comes first,” posted Williams, who has 23 Grand Slam singles titles to her name.

The youngest Williams sister didn’t have the cyst removed immediately after discovering it, but only after it grew.

“I discovered a large mass on my neck and I was mortified,” she says again in the video. “I did some tests and everything was negative. I ended up having to have it removed, it was so big. It was the size of a grapefruit and it hurt when it was taken out.”

“But everything worked out and I am very happy to have dealt with wonderful doctors,” continued the American who we see shopping with her daughter Olympia at the end of the video.

Serena Williams won her first Grand Slam title at the US Open in 1999 and the last in 2017 at the Australian Open which she has won seven times. His record also includes seven Wimbledons, six US Opens and three Roland-Garros.
