A young person breathing down Primeau’s neck

If our experts and former National Hockey League goalies Éric Fichaud and Patrick Lalime are excited by the progress of Samuel Montembeault, they show little confidence in Cayden Primeau, who will have to be wary of Jakub Dobes.

“I’ve already said it, I don’t have a lot of confidence in him,” Fichaud admitted on TVA Sports on Wednesday evening. And it’s not related to his game against the Bruins. I’m not convinced he can be the backup goalie Montembeault needs.”

“There is too much hesitation in Primeau’s game,” noted Lalime. Too much inconsistency in his play even within a match. He can have a good period and then collapse.”

One wonders if the young Dobes, number one goalie of the Rocket and fifth round choice of the organization in 2020 (136th total), could seize the auxiliary position sooner rather than later in Montreal.

“Dobes had a good camp, that can put a little pressure [sur Primeau] possibly,” noted Lalime.

“Dobes has excellent potential,” corroborated Fichaud. Of course, it’s not easy for a young goalie like Primeau not to play often, but he can’t escape three or four in a row.”
