a judicial investigation opened for manslaughter

The public prosecutor’s office has opened a judicial investigation for manslaughter in the context of the disappearance of Medhi Narjissi, increasing the degree of responsibility after the investigation opened into the causes of the disappearance.

New stage in the Medhi Narjissi affair. According to information from Sud Ouest, the Agen public prosecutor’s office has opened a judicial investigation for involuntary homicide in connection with the disappearance of the young 17-year-old scrum half, swept away by the current on August 7 in South Africa during a training session with the French U18 team.

“We will now get to the bottom of things to look for possible crimes”

“It’s an important step for the family,” Me Martial, lawyer for Jalil and Valérie Narjissi, the parents of the young rugby player, told Sud Ouest. “We will now get to the bottom of things to look for possible crimes including manslaughter. Justice moves quickly and that’s good.” On September 3, the Agen public prosecutor announced the opening of a “judicial investigation into a worrying disappearance”. Florian Grill, president of the French Rugby Federation, the player’s parents and two of his teammates who also found themselves in difficulty in the water were heard.

After the closure of this first part of the procedure, the prosecution chose the terms “manslaughter”, the highest level of responsibility. The people questioned by the courts will be questioned again but this time on the responsibilities of this tragedy.

Medhi Narjissi was swept away by rip currents on Dias Beach where young players from the French team were carrying out a recovery session. A first report from the internal investigation carried out by the French Rugby Federation (FFR) had overwhelmed several members of management.

Robin Ladauge, physical trainer, was even designated by manager Stéphane Cambos as the instigator of this session despite the risks. “In view of the virulence of the declarations of manager Stéphane Cambos – the stated objective of taking none of his responsibilities and of shamefully dumping himself on others – Mr. Ladauge wishes to react briefly, with the concern, above all, of respect of the family’s pain”, Robin Ladauge’s lawyer recently counterattacked in the team’s columns. He rejected the story of Stéphane Cambos, who claims to have stopped swimming at Les Bleuets because of its dangerousness, a version that is “untenable and purely false”.
