Juan Pablo Montoya marvels at McLaren’s indecision

McLaren’s sudden dominance has posed a “rich man’s problem” for CEO Zak Brown and team principal Andrea Stella, but they must make a decision to consider the drivers’ world title.

In this unexpected duel with the ogre Max Verstappen in the championship, Lando Norris has already left around ten points on the table due to the lack of instructions from his team.

McLaren has now taken the lead in the constructors’ title race and it is difficult to see how Red Bull could turn things around again, but Verstappen’s lead among the drivers is still substantial.

Soft focus

To allow their driver to maintain a chance of taking the crown, the hierarchy must be clearly defined in Woking but it seems that the artistic vagueness is maintained with regard to Oscar Piastri.

“McLaren made a mistake not making Lando their number one sooner, Estimate Juan Pablo Montoya, an elder of the house. What’s difficult for them is that Max continues to get on the podium. But McLaren had the opportunity to close the gap to put more pressure on him. Maybe it’s too late now.”

“Andrea and Zak showed indecision, perhaps because they no longer believed in it and wanted to favor the constructors’ title, he elaborates. This is a good lesson for all teams. They should tell themselves that halfway through the season, whoever is in the lead becomes number one, even if they only have 10 or 20% more points.”

Final countdown in sight…

“I hope McLaren doesn’t arrive in Abu Dhabi thinking that these four points here and six points there are missing for Lando Norris to be world champion” concludes the Colombian.

With six Grands Prix and three Sprints remaining, there are almost 200 points up for grabs and Verstappen has a lead of 52 points over Norris. We will see from Austin if the trend favorable to McLaren is confirmed or if the title holder manages to limit the damage by scoring big points despite everything.
