A personalized simulator for Kimi Antonelli

To better accustom himself to the complex procedures of modern Formula 1 before his big debut in 2025, Kimi Antonelli will have a real steering wheel and a personal simulator at his home this winter.

The first steps of young Kimi Antonelli (18 years old) in the top Mercedes AMG team are obviously being watched by many observers ready to see him stumble.

In his desire to unearth the nugget that had escaped him for the benefit of Red Bull during the Max Verstappen era, Toto Wolff is determined to put his protégé in the best possible conditions.

Antonelli himself, despite a crash during his first experience in free practice at Monza, believes that he can win straight away by aiming for Grand Prix victory from 2025.

Good for service

I feel ready for F1, assure Kimi. In terms of speed, I think it won’t be a problem. The only thing where there will be a lot of work to do is on managing the weekend in the best possible way and also learning all the procedures.”

“My goal will be cdefinitely win a few races next year, he says. It won’t be easy, because all the teams will have a competitive car, but it’s my dream. A few podiums would also be nice, although the main goal is to bring home a few wins.”

It will be important to learn not to lose concentration when someone is talking to you from the stands, as they are doing this to give you useful information,
he remarks. During testing, the engineers talk to me more and more because it is crucial to learn F1 procedures. When they ask you for a change, you need to know which button to touch on the steering wheel and what it does.”

A steering wheel for learning

To allow Antonelli to prepare as much as possible during the winter, the Mercedes team has prepared suitable equipment for him to practice at home.

“The team will send me a steering wheel and a small simulator at home to learn how to do the starts of
course, he reveals. The steering wheel is the real Formula 1 steering wheel, this will help me memorize the buttons too. At high speeds, you don’t have time to look at the steering wheel: you have to know it by heart.”
