NHL: Utah suffers first defeat against the Devils

The Utah Hockey Club suffered the first loss in its history, Monday afternoon, against the New Jersey Devils, by a score of 3-0.

In the victory, former CH goaltender Jake Allen got his first shutout in a Devils uniform, as he turned away 20 shots sent in his direction. It was his first shutout since February 14, 2023 and his 25th career shutout. “Winning is what matters most to me, but playing bland is a bonus for me at this point in my career.” He also became the first goalie in NHL history to win at least one game against 33 different franchises.

Nico Hischier and Seamus Casey each had a goal and an assist, and Stefan Noesen scored the other goal to propel New Jersey to a record of four wins and one loss.

Karel Vejmelka made 30 saves for Utah, which won its first three games by scoring no less than 16 goals.

Reinhart’s double propels Florida

Sam Reinhart scored on the advantage as well as on the penalty kill and the Florida Panthers defeated the Boston Bruins 4-3.

Anton Lundell also scored two goals and Sergei Bobrovsky stopped 25 shots for the Panthers, who eliminated the Bruins from the playoffs the last two years.

Mason Lohrei and Johnny Beecher each had a goal and an assist for the Bruins. Mark Kastelic had three assists.

Jeremy Swayman, making his third straight start after missing the season opener due to a contract dispute, made 22 saves for his first loss of the campaign.

The Panthers, Stanley Cup champions, looked in full possession of their means despite the absences of their captain Aleksander Barkov, injured, and Matthew Tkachuk, ill.
