the Greens qualified for the final phase

The Algerian team scored a fourth victory in the CAN 2025 qualifiers, beating Togo (0-1), this Monday, October 14 in Lomé. A success which allows the Greens to validate their ticket for the final phase of CAN 2025.

With a team largely overhauled compared to the one that crushed Togo on September 10 in Annaba, the Greens did the job in Lomé by overcoming a limited Togolese selection, thanks to a goal from Ramy Bensebaini which transformed a penalty obtained by Amine Gouiri (18e).

After this goal, the Togolese, upset, tried to equalize, but their numerous attempts came up against the defense and the Greens goalkeeper Alexis Guendouzi.

The latter played a key role in the victory by repelling many dangerous Togolese attempts, but he has an unfortunate tendency to let go of the ball each time, before regaining it, or being cleared by his defenders.

In the first half, the whirling Mohamed Amine Amoura, holder this time, caused misery to the Togolese defense on the left side, but he did not manage to score anything this time, sometimes preaching, out of individualism.

Center forward Amine Gouiri, who won the penalty at the origin of the goal by being caught in the opposing area, also posed a lot of problems for the Togolese, but he lacked efficiency in front of goal opponent.

In the second half, he incredibly missed an opportunity to make the break, missing his one-on-one with the opposing goalkeeper (49e).

For Riyad Mahrez, he started the match on the bench. Incorporated in the 70e minute, he tried to revitalize the Greens’ attack, but it’s not certain that he was reconciled with the supporters.

Despite the Togolese attacks, the Fennecs managed to keep their meager advantage to qualify for the final phase of CAN 2025, two days before the end of the qualifiers.

This important victory should not hide the weakness of the defense of the Algerian team which once again showed flaws in Lomé.

After four days, Algeria is at the top of its group E, with 12 points, followed by Equatorial Guinea (2nd, 7 pts).
