End of series in Portugal (0-2)

The U17 selection concluded its preparation for the Euro 2025 qualifiers on Monday with a friendly defeat against the Portuguese (0-2).

At the Cidade do Futbol de Cruz Quebrada (Portugal), the French U17 team lost on Monday October 14 against the host country. Lionel Rouxel’s players had five victories in a row, the last of which was against Wales three days ago (3-1), but this time the step was too high.

From the start of the meeting, the Tricolores were put in difficulty by a Selection conquering and aggressive, who performs high pressing. The opening score was not long in coming, the Portuguese quickly took the lead through Mateus Mide (0-1, 8th). The teammates of Abdoulaye Camara, captain of the day, tried to react, in vain and conceded the break goal, scored by Tomas Soares (0-2, 68th), who entered the game a few minutes earlier.

The U17 selection will return to Cypriot soil at the end of October, for the first round of Euro qualifying in its category.

THE BREEDER’S REACTION

Lionel Rouxel : “We are disappointed and frustrated not to have been able to win today because we made a lot of efforts during this training period. However, this defeat makes us aware of the work that remains to be done, on a daily basis, to reach the level we faced today. Portugal played a very good match with intensity and above all, a certain requirement. You have to hate defeat, my players understand this and they know what they must put in place to avoid this kind of poor performance. The important deadline arrives at the end of the month with the first qualifying round for the Euro which we will play in Cyprus. We prepared well and it was better that defeat came today than in two weeks. »
