Jack Grealish has revealed he lost a £500 bet with Trent Alexander-Arnold after the defender’s stunning free-kick in England’s win over Finland.
The Manchester City player revealed after the match that he told Alexander-Arnold he would pay him £500 if he scored from distance. Alexander-Arnold, replacing at left-back, curled his shot into the top left corner to double the Three Lions’ advantage after Grealish had opened the scoring.
Speaking to ITV after the match, Grealish explained:
“I said to Trent Alexander-Arnold ‘if you score that free-kick I’ll give you £500’ and he just put it in, so now I owe him something« .
500 pounds lost
England bounced back from a disappointing defeat against Greece on Thursday to win comfortably in Helsinki. Grealish opened the scoring after 18 minutes with a low curling shot after a nice pass from Angel Gomes. Alexander-Arnold’s free-kick then doubled the lead before Declan Rice added a third and Finland scored a consolation goal through Arttu Hoskonen.
After settling his debt to Alexander-Arnold, Grealish will return to Manchester City ahead of a clash against Wolves. Meanwhile, the defender will play for Grealish’s title rivals Liverpool against Chelsea on Sunday. Both players will return to England during the next international break in November.
