Kyrgios wants to “silence” the skeptics and aims for a Grand Slam

The fantastic Australian player Nick Kyrgios announced on Monday that he plans to return to the courts in December. He wants to win a Grand Slam and ‘silence’ those who doubt him.

The former world number 13 has played just one singles match on the ATP Tour in two years, after suffering knee, foot and wrist injuries. While he had repeatedly hinted that he would retire, the 29-year-old told Code Sports that he would return for the World Tennis League exhibition tournament in December before try his luck at the Australian Open in January.

‘I’m coming back because there’s something holding me back in the game,’ said the man who earned a reputation for his outbursts and tantrums in the middle of a match at the start of his career.

Finalist at Wimbledon in 2022

‘I beat practically everyone who was presented to me, I made it to the final of a Grand Slam, I won a doubles title in a Grand Slam (ed: Australian Open 2022 with his compatriot Thanasi Kokkinakis), I won several titles and I won money,’ Kyrgios recalled.

‘But I think the only thing I’m aiming for now is a Grand Slam. I think it’s the only thing that will finally shut people up,’ the Canberra native added. ‘This will be my deep motivation,’ he promised.

Kyrgios, who worked as a commentator during his absence, reached his only Grand Slam singles final at Wimbledon in 2022. He lost in four sets to Serbian Novak Djokovic.
