Hit in the calf against Clermont this weekend, Romain Ntamack must treat a tear. His participation in the fall tour of the XV of France is compromised.
Coming out with a calf injury before half-time of the match between Stade Toulousain and Clermont, Ernest Wallon, Romain Ntamack had an MRI this Sunday and is suffering from a small tear. The Toulouse fly-half felt a sharp pain behind his right leg on a defensive replacement and lay down in his in-goal. The pain he felt when leaving the field, supported by two trainers, could have led to fears for the worst, but the risk of a ruptured Achilles tendon was quickly ruled out.
Package against Japan?
It is indeed the calf that is affected, as confirmed last night by the assistant coach in charge of skills, David Mélé. Ntamack will observe a rest period of three to four weeks. In this context, the recovery time seems far too short to hope for a return to the blue jersey – which he has not worn since August 12, 2023 against Scotland – on November 9 against Japan, the first match of the Autumn tour of the XV of France.
Will he be able to apply against New Zealand on November 16, then against Argentina on November 22? Hope exists even if it seems complicated knowing that he will not be able to play again until then in the Top 14 with Stade Toulousain. The reigning French champion will play three days in a row before cutting two weeks until November 23. The coach of the XV of France Fabien Galthié will unveil a list of 42 players for this autumn tour in around ten days.
