L’Trébeurden tennis association (ATT) is relaunching after the death of its teacher Aurélie Dorp during the summer. It is innovating for the 2024 school year with the pickleball. Saturday September 21, it was Cyril Peltier, French number 1 in doubles and mixed doubles, who introduced this sport.
The ATT has invested in four plots of land and equipment. The departmental committee and the league subsidize the activity. In addition, ATT welcomes two new professors.
A racket sport
Pickleball is a mix of tennis, table tennis and badminton, which arrives from the United States. A small court measuring 13.40 m by 6.20 m, rackets which are similar to those of table tennis but larger, and a ball, yellow, but made of rigid plastic and riddled with holes. He was invented in 1965 by three fathers who wanted the whole family to play.
“Light tennis”?
Described by some as “light tennis”, it is a sport accessible to all, fun and less physical.
“We are more used to raclette than rackets,” jokes Jean, who has never played tennis and has come to discover pickleball. “It’s nice. »
He replaces a sweaty player. Meanwhile, on the neighboring court, Michel, a tennis fan, is doing his best to catch the ball as if he were on a tennis court.
We immediately have the right sensations, without a lot of learning. It remains very sporty. You have to have the flexion. The ball comes back quickly.
Jean-Dominique, for his part, is a little grumpy: he is complaining about this yellow ball which doesn’t bounce like the other one.
He is possible to register only for pickleball, during the Monday slot, from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m., at the tennis hall (Allée Quiniou).
