only 500,000 subscribers for DAZN and Ligue 1?

According to The team, the broadcaster of the French Football Championship has 500,000 subscribers while its objective is to have 1.5 million.

DAZN, the new broadcaster of Ligue 1, would have 500,000 subscribers two months after its launch in August, L’Équipe said this Saturday. A figure much higher than the alarmist rumors circulating in recent days (around 100,000 subscribers) but for the moment well below the broadcaster’s long-term objectives, 1.5 million subscribers. Questioned on Info after four days, the London-based group said it was targeting 1 million subscribers by the end of the year.

For comparison, Mediapro, which had gone out of business, claimed 600,000 subscribers to Téléfoot, its channel dedicated to Ligue 1, at the same launch period. The Team reminds that below this threshold in December 2025, DAZN could terminate the contract without having to honor its last three years of commitment (until 2029). There is therefore more than a year left for the media to inflate its figures after a disappointing launch, in particular because of the price of the tariff considered prohibitive this summer (€29.99 per month with commitment and €39.99 without commitment).

Upcoming promotions

DAZN had launched an initial promotional campaign to attract football lovers tempted to use an illegal offer (IPTV) to watch the matches on TV. Others will be launched very soon: ““From next week and until Classic, we are relaunching the one at €19.99 per month with one connection and another at €29.99 for two simultaneous connections.”
