Last April, Nottingham lost 2-0 against Everton. In addition to the frustration of the defeat, the English club were furious to see three potential penalties not awarded. On its networks, Nottingham then criticized VAR. Something that the English Federation sanctioned with a fine of 750,000 pounds (896,000 euros).
The English Football Association (FA) leaves no room for criticism. For criticizing the video refereeing on its X account during a match lost against Everton (2-0) last April, Nottingham Forest was fined Friday 750,000 pounds (896,000 euros), the FA said.
The Premier League club were furious not to have benefited from three penalties during a 2-0 defeat against the Toffees, then direct competitors for maintenance. “Three extremely bad decisions that we simply cannot accept,” Forest wrote on their official X account, accusing the VAR manager of being a supporter of Luton, a club also struggling to avoid relegation.
Forest will appeal
The English Football Association, which considered that these comments had brought football into disrepute by “implying bias and/or calling into question the integrity of match officials”, then referred the matter to a regulatory commission.
“Extremely disappointed”, Forest deemed this fine “totally disproportionate” and announced that it would appeal, according to a club press release. The club ultimately finished last season in 17th place, six points ahead of Luton Town, who were relegated along with Burnley and Sheffield United. This season, Nottingham are currently 10th in the Premier League, with just one defeat since the start of the season.
