At Barça, Szczesny does not intend to quit smoking

Johan Cruyff, Fabien Barthez, Zinédine Zidane, Gianluigi Buffon, Andrea Pirlo and Marco Verratti: these football stars have all made headlines in the press for their penchant for cigarettes.

Wojciech Szczesny is one of them. The new goalkeeper of FC Barcelona, who came out of retirement to compensate for the absence of Marc-André ter Stegen (knee), does not hide it and recalled it to “Mundo Deportivo”. “I don’t have to explain myself to the fans, it’s none of their business if I smoke from time to time,” he said during this interview. I don’t think smoking affects what I can do on the field.”

At 34, the Polish international (84 caps) does not intend to change anything in the way he does things in Catalonia. “I just avoid smoking in front of my children so as not to set a bad example,” he recalled. Sometimes people take pictures of me smoking behind a tree and I can’t control it. I am who I am and I just want to be judged for what I do in the cages.

Passed by Arsenal, AS Roma and Juve, Wojciech Szczesny should quickly become a starter for Barça, who were looking for an experienced free goalkeeper to replace the young Inaki Pena.
