YOG 2026: the Organizing Committee intends to meet the challenge of logistics and mobility thanks to the TER

(APS) – The Organizing Committee for the Dakar 2026 Youth Olympic Games (COJOJ) wishes to meet the “logistics and mobility challenge” by relying on the Regional Express Train (TER), designated as the official public carrier of the competition, said its coordinator Ibrahima Wade on Wednesday.

”Together, we have decided to make the TER the backbone of the transport and mobility system for the Dakar 2026 Youth Olympic Games. This is an extremely important decision which shows our commitment to succeeding in this logistical challenge”, he said.

He was speaking during a visit to the TER facilities at Colobane and Dakar stations, ahead of the Dakar 2026 YOG.

Mr. Wade was accompanied by the general director of the National Management Company of the Regional Express Train of Senegal (SENTER), Cheikh Ibrahima Ndiaye.

During an interview with the APS, M Ndiaye announced that the TER has been designated as the official public carrier of the YOG Dakar 2026.

”We have agreed to make the TER the official carrier of the YOG. A memorandum of understanding will be developed very soon to formalize and make this innovative partnership official, he said.

According to Mr. Wade, ”this visit to the TER facilities will consolidate the foundations of this strategic partnership”.

”In terms of transport and mobility for the YOG Dakar 2026, Senegal is ready,” he assured.

”We wanted to show them the installations, make them understand the potential of the system and demonstrate the capacity of the TER to manage events of this scale,” maintained, for his part, Mr. Ndiaye.

The CEO of SENTER assured that measures have been taken by his structure to “comply with international safety standards”.

He recalled the upcoming receipt of seven new trainsets for phase 2 of the TER.

”By the YOG, we will be able to run a train every eight minutes between the Blaise Diagne International Airport (AIBD) station and Diamniadio, which corresponds to the standards of European metros,” a- he clarified.

According to him, ”this increase in train frequency will allow us to cope with the influx of athletes, participants and spectators expected for the Games”.
