CH training: Cole Caufield is on a mission

The Montreal Canadiens took to the ice at the CN Sports Complex in Brossard to practice certain routines before the season opener on Wednesday against the Toronto Maple Leafs. The game will be played at the Bell Centre, probably in front of a full house.

Coming back to morning training, Cole Caufield was the first player to appear on the ice, who came to work on his shot. He certainly wants to reconnect with his bearings before the start of the season, especially since he is once again the only real natural sniper in the group.

By the way, everyone was on the ice this morning, even Jayden Struble, who underwent treatment during Monday’s practice. Moreover, Struble found himself among the six defenders who should be used on Wednesday, while Justin Barron played the role of seventh crossing guard.

Except that it didn’t last long for Struble, who really seemed to be dealing with an uncomfortable physical problem. This discomfort certainly calls into question his presence in the lineup for the start of this 2024-25 campaign…

That said, during this session, special teams were highlighted. On the penalty kill, Oliver Kapanen found himself with veteran Christian Dvorak. Is this an indicator? Will he be in uniform Wednesday, against the Leafs? Note that Josh Anderson also practiced on the numerical inferiority, he who will most likely have a different role this year.

Obviously, a Montreal Canadiens training session cannot end without a speech from Martin St-Louis, who has accustomed his players to that before leaving the ice.
