2. Bundesliga: Lunar scenes: two penalties for a clownish foul!

Two defenders committed the same unusual mistake during a German second division match this weekend, namely grabbing the ball with their hands in their respective 16 meters while the game was in progress!

Funny scenes on Saturday during the 8th day of 2. Bundesliga. During the duel between FC Magdeburg (2nd) and Greuther Fürth (8th), each of the two teams was able to benefit from a penalty in the first half following an unusual fault: the ball was deliberately picked up by hand by a…defender. Explanations.

It all started in the 13th minute when the visiting team’s center back Gideon Jung, thinking it was a clearance from six meters, grabbed the ball passed by his goalkeeper Nahuel Noll. The sentence is immediate: the referee indicates the penalty spot, then transformed into two steps by winger Mohamed El Hankouri.

Then in the 41st minute, it was the turn of local defender Daniel Heber to make exactly the same mistake! Expecting a free kick to be called on the edge of his penalty area, the 30-year-old German player also stopped the play by picking up the ball with his hands. A penalty is therefore once again awarded and is converted this time by midfielder Julian Green. Lunar.

Magdeburg and Fürth ended up parting as good friends (2-2).
