the Landes derby between US and Stade Montois will take place in

Despite the reluctance and opposition of some, starting with the town hall of , the Dacquois club formalized the holding of this eleventh day of Pro D2 on Basque soil. “The USD speaks of a grand celebration. I remain convinced that this should have taken place in Dax,” says the deputy mayor of Dax in charge of sports, Amine Benalia-Brouch.

In its press release, the spa town club explains that this decision is the “fruit of careful consideration”. He highlights the “increased reception capacity” offered by the Jean-Dauger stadium in , with “14,000 seats compared to 4,500 seats” at Maurice-Boyau, a schedule “designed for families”, as well as “ unprecedented media exposure thanks to a bonus broadcast on Canal Plus Sport, projecting Landes rugby to the forefront of the national scene.

“Economic opportunity”

“Compared to the hundreds of thousands of euros that the City is investing in the renovation of the Maurice-Boyau stadium, this choice to relocate this Landes derby is surprising to say the least,” regrets the Dacquois elected official in charge of sports.

The red and white club speaks of a “significant economic opportunity”. This commercial operation should make it possible to generate “a profit of 300 to 400,000 euros”, assured in our columns the general director of the USD Adrien Asteggiano a few days before the officialization.

When discussing this relocation in Jean-Dauger, the mayor of Dax Julien Dubois pointed out the shortfall for “the economic fabric of Dacquois, which always benefits from such a poster”. In its press release, US Dax indicates an “agreement with the club’s partner cafes, guarantors of the festive soul that will make the heart of this unique event beat.”

Parade and convoy

The information hardly satisfies Amine Benalia-Brouch: “By organizing the match in Bayonne on a Saturday afternoon, it is obvious that the Dax traders will have a shortfall in earnings. And not all cafe owners are partners of the club!”

“We must stop saying that this derby played in Bayonne will take something away from traders! It’s been seven years since we last had a derby! And compared to last season, on a Friday in November at 9 p.m., the cafe owners will have a longer time slot to work,” replied Jean-Baptiste Dassé, one of the bosses of La Ruche.

Like three other cafe owners from Place Dacquoise, partners of the club, the forty-year-old allowed himself to be convinced by the arguments of the USD leaders.

: “So that there are people in town in the morning, a passage of players is planned, activities will be organized.”

Reassured by “a club that plays the game of timing”, Alain Bagnères was also tempted by the establishment of a “partnership in transport research”
