the New Caledonian V1 championship returns to Nouméa

The New Caledonian va’a championship events welcomed nearly 80 participants to Anse-Vata (Nouméa) on Saturday October 5 for two long races. A great turnout, seven months after the last competition organized in the region.

Bright sunshine and 18 knots of wind. The conditions could hardly have been better for the resumption of the va’a V1 championship at Anse-Vata (Nouméa) this Saturday. The women – seniors and juniors – were the first to get into the water in the morning, over a fourteen kilometer course. A race won by Marcy Manaté, from the Tuhaa Pae Va’a club, after one hour, 26 minutes and 57 seconds of effort.

“I’m happy to come back and see more women than usual, there were more than ten of us today. It’s encouraging for the future”greeted the winner of the day.

For the men, 58 rowers took part in the championship later in the day. This time with the victory of Albert Mainguet (G’Froid) in one hour, 47 minutes and three seconds. Titouan Puyo (Leeward Islands) and Kévin Harbulot (ASPTT) completed the podium.

Enough to generate a lot of pleasure as well as relief for the athletes, who had not been able to express themselves on a body of water in competition since last April.

“All the main clubs presented their best rower. The season will really start for us, we will have competitions almost every two weeks over two and a half months”rejoiced the vice-president of the Caledonian Va’a League Richard Drouet. Despite the uncertain calendar until the end of the year, this Caledonian V1 championship could be the triggering event for a great success in terms of recovery.
