Super League: Servette hanging on to Saint-Gall, YB beaten again

Held in a 1-1 draw at St. Gallen despite a clear domination, Servette missed the opportunity to take the lead in the Super League at the end of the 9th day. Beaten 1-0 in Basel, YB remains bottom.

In St. Gallen, the Brodeurs opened the scoring in the 21st minute with a header from Görtler. But the Genevans reacted very strongly after the break. From the 46th minute, Stevanovic equalized, also with a header.

Then, under the impetus of an untenable Kutesa, Servette very often put his opponent in difficulty, but was not able to translate his domination on the scoreboard despite several clear chances and a numerical superiority from the 81st.

Basel on the bright side

At Parc Saint-Jacques, FC Basel achieved a very important success which allows it to now appear above the bar. The decisive success came from Barisic’s head, receiving a free kick kicked by Shaqiri (52nd), author of an interesting performance until his replacement in the 72nd.

The turning point of the match occurred shortly before the break. The referee awarded a penalty to YB, but the VAR overturned it for a Lauper simulation. A minute later, the Bernese midfielder was sent off for a foul. At ten, the Bernese were unable to resist and thus remain last in the ranking. The position of coach Patrick Rahmen is becoming more and more precarious…
