IGTC – Victory for Team WRT in Indianapolis, Charles Weerts titled

If Adam Adelson, Elliott Skeer and Laurin Heinrich (Porsche 911 GT3 R n°120 – Wright Motorsports) crossed the Brickyard finish line first on the American night, the 5″ penalty received for an infraction in the pit lane however, offers victory to the No. 31 BMW M4 GT3 – Team WRT of Charles Weerts, Dries Vanthoor and Sheldon van der Linde.

For a long time the No. 31 set the pace in the United States, passing the halfway mark logically in the lead given the pace of the three drivers, who had widened a gap of almost 30″ before the neutralizations came to ruin this advantage after 4 hours of racing.

It was at this point that the #120 Porsche 911 GT3 R emerged at the front, with Wright Motorsports deciding not to pit during third. safety car.

A judicious choice followed by another since the #120 stopped just before the next neutralization and managed not to lose a lap. After its rivals stopped, the green Porsche and its traditional yellow stripe regained control of the race.

If Sheldon van der Linde regains the advantage a few minutes later, Wright Motorsports regains control by taking advantage of a 5″ penalty for the #31 BMW. But it’s another 5″ penalty (for having driven too slowly and hampered a competitor) which ultimately decides the outcome of the race, this time in favor of WRT.

The success of the No. 31 offers the Drivers’ title to Charles Weerts, while Porsche nevertheless secures the Manufacturers’ crown. Wright Motorsports also finished atop the GT World Challenge America standings, with the title going to Elliott Skeer and Adam Adelson over rivals in the No. 63 Corvette Z06 GT3.R – DXDT Racing Tommy Milner and Alec Udell.
