LOSC – FC: Nothing serious for David, early exits of Meunier and André Gomes explained

Bruno Genesio returned case by case to the meetings of Jonathan David, Thomas Meunier and André Gomes this Saturday, following LOSC’s victory over FC (2-1).

A third consecutive victory is what LOSC has just achieved by defeating Toulouse FC this Saturday (2-1), inside the Decathlon Arena – Stade Pierre Mauroy. Ten thousand people less than last Wednesday gathered in the Villeneuve enclosure, but it doesn’t matter, the Mastiffs were satisfied with a reactionary second period to seize success against the Violets. During a press conference at the final whistle, Bruno Genesio spoke about some of his players step by step, from Jonathan David (24 years old) to André Gomes (31 years old) via Thomas Meunier (33 years old).

Appearing for the fifteenth time on the field during the Toulouse reception, Jonathan David was the actor in one of the images at the end of the game. The Canadian remained on the ground at the start of added time (90+1′), visibly suffering from pain in his thigh. Fear was then alive in the aisles and in the press stands where people were already imagining the worst. Fortunately, Bruno Genesio was reassuring: “There is nothing serious for Jo’ (David). He ran a lot, he played a lot of matches and he just finished the match with cramps”he confided.

“In addition to being a very good player, André is a great gentleman who has great class”

Another point of reflection, the tenure of Thomas Meunier, supposed to feel pain in his calf and arch according to his technician and his coach. The first named justified his choice to start him at the final whistle: “He is an exemplary player, on whom I rely enormously. Tiago (Santos) had just finished two matches, including one against Real Madrid during which he had lost a lot of strength. It’s very important to be able to field fresh players in these kinds of matches. Now he will be able to take care of his little glitches and cut things out mentally. When you play one match after another, you don’t have much opportunity to recharge your batteries psychologically.”explained Bruno Genesio simply.

Finally, it is the case of midfielder André Gomes who has been the subject of strong questions. The Portuguese was unrecognizable during the first act: “It’s been some time since he last played in a series of matches. He was very good in and maybe it was more difficult today (Saturday). I always put things into perspective in relation to the context and the collective. I don’t like to point the finger at one player more than another. I make changes because I believe there are things to be made. André had taken a yellow very early in the match and it was a bit risky to leave him on the pitchlaunches the LOSC coach, continuing on his entrants. I wanted to bring a little dynamism with the entries of Ayyoub (Bouaddi) and Tiago (Santos) at half-time because I found that we were slow in the transmissions, slow in the sequences. We had difficulty finding play forward. I wanted to have players with this profile. In addition to being a very good player, André is a great gentleman who has great class. He was in the locker room with the others as if he had played the whole match and that’s what counts.”concluded Bruno Genesio to the media.
