Genève-Servette and its powerplay win 5-2 against Kloten

Ajoie has its first success of the season in the National League.

Christian Wohlwend’s men unlocked their counter by claiming the scalp of the now ex-leader Kloten (5-2) on Friday. Lausanne, for its part, confirmed its good form by beating Zug 6-3, while Gottéron lost 6-3 in Bern.

Beaten in his first seven outings without having scored a single point, Ajoie discovered an unlikely hero on Friday in the person of Arno Nussbaumer. Trained in Zug and moved to La Chaux-de-Fonds in 2023/24, the 22-year-old defender scored a goal and an assist for his first two points of the season.

Nussbaumer scored the crucial 3-1 in the 36th minute, outnumbered. This goal cut the wings of the Zurich Aviators, who had reduced the score to 2-1 in the 34th while the Latvian striker of Ajoie Emils Veckaktins had received a 5′ penalty – as well as a misconduct by match – just 24 seconds earlier.

Four in a row for the LHC

Ajoie remains bottom despite this success, while Kloten falls from 1st to 5th place. It was Rapperswil-Jona who took advantage of the Flyers’ misstep to take the lead. The Lakers, who had three consecutive losses, dominated Langnau 4-1 to pick up their fifth success of the season.

“Rappi” is one length ahead of a Lausanne HC in full swing. The Lausannois won their fourth success in a row by forcing the decision in the third period: Bozon (45th), Suomela (47th, 5 against 4) and Bougro (51st) ended up forcing the EVZ, which had equalized for the third time of the evening at the 44th.

Crack scream

Everything also came down to the final period during the first Zähringen derby of the season. Led 2-1 by Berne at the start of the final third, Gottéron broke down by conceding three goals in just under 180 seconds between the 50th and 53rd. The Dragons therefore suffered their sixth defeat in eight outings.

The 5-1, signed Victor Ejdsell, also caused Dragons goalkeeper Reto Berra to lose his temper, who smashed his cane before joining the bench. Ejdsell scored two goals and an assist on Friday, as did man of the match Marco Lehmann. This third consecutive success allows the Bears to move to 3rd place.

Biel returns to victory

Beaten in its last three outings, Bienne returned to victory against Lugano (5-3). The Zealanders were able to count on a Fabio Hofer on fire: the Austrian winger made the decisive pass on the 2-2 from Gaëtan Haas (30th, 5 against 4), before scoring the 3-2 (33rd). He had already opened the scoring in the 15th.

Genève-Servette also failed to achieve a third success in a row. The Garnet lost 5-4 after overtime on the ice of Ambri-Piotta, who forced the decision after 91” in “overtime” thanks to Dominik Kubalik. The GSHC had however equalized 5” from the end of regulation time.
