QMJHL summary from October 4: The Phoenix signs a 4th victory in a row

The Sherbrooke Phoenix scored two goals in less than a minute at the end of the first period and defeated the Shawinigan Cataractes by a score of 3-1 in one of the eight games on the Maritimes Junior Hockey League calendar Quebec, Friday.

The Phoenix trailed 1-0 when Thomas Rousseau tied the game at 18:22 of the first period. Only 50 seconds later, Olivier Dubois gave the Phoenix the lead who, as a result, would sign a fourth victory in a row.

Louis-Alex Tremblay, in an empty net, scored the insurance net.

Reece Peitzsche scored the only goal for the Cataractes.

Cataford se charge des Eagles

In Cape Breton, Mathieu Cataford collected a goal and two assists and the Rimouski Océanic defeated the Eagles 5-2.

Olivier Théberge, Loïc Francoeur, Quinn Kennedy and Jacob Mathieu scored the other goals for the Océanic, which was playing the fifth of nine consecutive games on the road to start the season.

Cam Squires scored both goals for the Eagles, who dominated 31-19 in shots on goal.

Sags topple Tigers in 3rd

In Victoriaville, the Chicoutimi Saguenéens scored five unanswered goals in the third period and beat the Tigres 7-4.

Maxim Massé was the big star of the match with three goals and an assist. Thomas Desruisseaux added a goal and two assists.

In the defeat, Alexis Bourque had a goal and an assist.

The Mooseheads have the upper hand over the Remparts

In Halifax, Shawn Carrier broke a 1-1 tie with his fourth goal of the season early in the third period, and the Mooseheads held on to defeat the Quebec Remparts 4-2.

Carrier and Braeden MacPhee led the Mooseheads’ offense with a goal and an assist each. MacPhee’s net came about thirty seconds after Nathan Quinn had allowed the Remparts to come within a goal of the Mooseheads.

Cade Moser and Lou Lévesque also found the back of the net for the Mooseheads.

Justin Côté, in the first period, scored the Remparts’ other goal.

The Voltigeurs take control in 2nd

In Drummondville, the Voltigeurs scored four consecutive goals in the second period and beat the Baie-Comeau Drakkar 5-1.

Sam Oliver led this backfire with two of his three goals. Oliver completed his hat trick in an empty net late in the third period.

Maxime Lambert and Étienne Dupéré also rocked the ropes for the Voltigeurs.

Justin Poirier allowed the Drakkar to take a 1-0 lead in the second minute of the game.

Zonnon strikes twice; Meloche whitewashes the Olympics

In Rouyn-Noranda, Bill Zonnon scored a double in an interval of less than three minutes and the Huskies defeated the Gatineau Matériaux 4-0.

Evan Courtois, in the first period, and Thomas Verdon, in the third period, completed.

Goaltender Samuel Meloche earned the shutout thanks to a 29-save performance.

The Armada never worried by the Drillers

In Val-d’Or, the Blainville-Boisbriand Armada scored the first five goals of the game, including three in the second period, en route to a 6-1 victory over the Val d’Or Foreurs.

Mateo Nobert particularly stood out with a performance of two goals and an assist. Jonathan Fauchon did his part with a goal and an assist.

Mathias Bourque scored the only goal for the Foreurs.

Wildcats dominate Titan

In Bathurst, Markus Vidicek scored two goals, Vincent Collard added two assists, and the Moncton Wildcats defeated the Acadie-Bathurst Titan 5-1.

In the Wildcats’ victory, goaltender Jacob Steinman stood out by blocking 31 shots. Cory MacGillivray was the only Titan player to deceive his vigilance.
