Incidents in the stands: Anderlecht supporters are still in detention in Spain, what will happen now?

We told you about it yesterday, during the meeting between Real Sociedad and Anderlecht, some Sporting supporters caused chaos. After these incidents in the stadium, three of them are still in detention in Spain.

If Anderlecht shone on the pitch by winning 1-2 against this tough opponent as part of the second day of the Europa League on Thursday evening, some purple supporters stood out for the wrong reasons.

They insulted and threw projectiles (among other things, torn seats) into the stand below theirs. An area of the stadium generally intended for families. Several people left the stadium before the end of the match.

The Spanish police quickly arrested eight Belgian supporters. Five of them spent the night of the match in detention. Two were released this Friday. The remaining three must appear before a judge this Saturday. Even though no one was hurt, they expect heavy penalties.

What sanctions for the club?

The RSCA should also be sanctioned after this episode. The Belgian club has been on borrowed time since the incidents of October 2022 at West Ham in the Conference League. Sporting will probably not be allowed to have supporters in Riga at the beginning of November. As for the financial sanction, it will have to be determined.

Real Sociedad, already the victim of similar incidents during a match between them and Benfica in October 2023, will insist to UEFA that the Mauves be heavily penalized.
