Friborg loses the first Zähringen derby, Geneva takes a point from Ambri – rts.ch

Freiburg lost 6-3 to Bern in the Zähringen derby. Still clumsy at the finish, the Dragons remained in the match until the 50th (2-1), when they sank steeply. Geneva lost 5-4 after extra time at Ambri.

The start of the Friborg season is slowly starting to turn sour. Pat Emond’s men conceded their sixth defeat in seven games in Bern and a certain frustration seems to be setting in.

The first Zähringen derby was decided around the 50th minute of play, when the Bears scored three goals in the space of 2’48, changing the score from 2-1 to 5-1 in their favor. Reto Berra, the Friborg goalkeeper, then threw a violent rage, breaking his second cane of the evening before returning to the bench on his own, grumbling. A behavior that raises questions for such an experienced player.

The Dragons may also have lost their defender Maximilian Streule for a while. The young Zurich native injured his right knee in the first third after a contact against the boards and did not reappear after that.

A 5th match with at least one point for Geneva

Geneva did not manage to achieve a third success in a row. The Garnet lost 5-4 after overtime on the ice of Ambri, who forced the decision after 91 additional seconds thanks to Dominik Kubalik. The Servettians had however equalized 5” from the end of regulation time by Markus Granlund.

This is the fifth match (out of six played) where Geneva manages to collect at least one point. Note that defender Eric Schneller scored his first goal in the elite.
