Many Anderlecht fans believe that the interim for David Hubert’s position should be canceled. However, this is (yet) not the plan of the Brussels club. And maybe that’s even a good thing.
The desire to see the interim coach extend the adventure is understandable. Hubert is currently doing a magnificent job as Mauves T1. We can see more offensive patterns, he is excellent in team management and he is courageous. All requirements required when choosing a new coach at Lotto Park.
Hubert gives hope to fans
Hubert has a lot of potential as a coach, but he also finds himself in a situation where he had nothing to lose. Anderlecht’s game was bad and no one expected it to resolve everything immediately. The bar was pretty low after Brian Riemer didn’t find any offensive schemes at all.
Hubert gives supporters hope for better days and shows that there is more quality in the team than the start of the season suggested. The fact that he is giving Tristan Degreef a chance in a match as important as that of this Thursday evening of course makes him even more popular with the supporters. The coaches who start the Neerpede boys always get a little more credit.
Not a Veldman story
But Anderlecht is still looking for a new head coach. For what ? Because they don’t want to burn Hubert. Management also sees that he has all the qualities to become head coach, but they do not want a new Robin Veldman story.
The Dutchman did a fantastic job with the hopefuls, and he had to temporarily take the reins when Felice Mazzu was let go. When Riemer arrived, Veldman became his assistant, but he did not adhere to this role. At Anderlecht, they are looking for a coach under whom Hubert can further mature, as he is now expected to remain in the first team staff.
But it is also the fear of Anderlecht supporters. They have little confidence that management will find a coach who will convey the values and DNA of Anderlecht. And yet, this is what Hubert is currently doing. If we took a poll this Friday among RSCA supporters, it’s a safe bet that the majority would vote to keep David Hubert on the bench.
But what will happen if – and yes, no one can predict this – things go wrong soon? Bringing Hubert down to U18 is no longer an option. And as the confidence in him is great, Anderlecht wants to give him time to ensure that he will be ready. Also to lead the team as head coach for a few years.
