the complete route of the 10th edition of this solo world tour

The biggest sailing race around the world, the Vendée Globe will experience its 10the edition from November 10. In Sables-d’Olonne (Vendée), 40 skippers will start the solo event, including Frenchman Yannick Bestaven (Maître Coq V), winner in 2021 after 80 days, 3 hours, 44 minutes and 46 seconds at sea .

In total, 24,300 miles (or 45,000 kilometers) are on the program for the sailors’ theoretical route to circumnavigate the planet. The latter will immediately head south after setting off from the Vendée coast, crossing the Azores before heading down the Atlantic Ocean via the Doldrums. At the Tropic of Capricorn, the skippers will head east to approach the Cape of Good Hope in South Africa.

Cape Horn, legendary crossing point

Crozet Islands, Kerguelen Islands, Amsterdam Islands and Saint-Paul Islands… These are all archipelagos that sailors will be able to see during their crossing of the Indian Ocean, before arriving in the Pacific Ocean and passing through Point Nemo , also known as the maritime pole of inaccessibility. That is to say the point of the ocean farthest from any land surface on Earth.

“In reality, during the nine previous editions of the Vendée Globe, most of the competitors have sometimes covered more than 28,000 miles (or almost 52,000 kilometers)specifies the organization on its site. Solo sailors have to deal with the wind, the waves, the swell, the ice. The trajectory of the boats is therefore only a succession of broken lines, zigzags, detours and changes of course. »
