The CSIO 5* in Barcelona opened this afternoon with a Two-Phase Special at 1.40m, which was contested by numerous couples selected for the final of the Longines Showjumping Nations League. The two rounds of this key event of the Catalan competition will continue on Sunday afternoon at the Real Club de Polo de Barcelona. At home, Leticia Riva Gil had the merit of having the Spanish anthem sung, having completed the fastest of the twenty-two double clear rounds of this small event on Cadum de Champloué, a twelve-year-old Selle Français mare by Diamant de Semilly and a mother by the Thoroughbred Laudanum. Beyond this issue, it was above all a question, for many of the more successful couples, of entering the competition well. For France, the mission was fulfilled with the flawless work of Olivier Perreau and Dorai d’Aiguilly*GL events, twelfth, as well as Julien Épaillard, Simon Delestre and Olivier Robert with Donatello d’Auge, Dexter Fontenis and Iglesias DV. Simon only conceded two time points in the second phase with the Olympic stallion I Amelusina R 51, which he should ride on Sunday afternoon. As for Kevin Staut, who presented Beau de Laubry, his lead horse, in the 1.45m speed contested subsequently, he made a mistake in the second phase with Dialou Blue PS, his partner at the European Championships in Milan in 2023, back at a very good level since this summer, as evidenced by his third place in the Longines Grand Prix of the Normandy region in August at the Longines Deauville Classic.
On the program tomorrow: a speed test at 1.45m and especially the Grand Prix at 1.60m, scheduled for 9 p.m.
