TV: The number of DAZN subscribers leaked is terrible

Two months after winning the call for tenders to broadcast almost all of Ligue 1, DAZN is sticking its tongue out like never before in light of the latest figures revealed.

A newcomer to the world of French football TV rights, DAZN is making a delicate entry into Ligue 1. The proposed price caused an outcry among viewers, and although there has been no major technical bug to report since At the beginning, it was above all the general fed up observed among potential subscribers which made people cringe. Two months after the launch of the first offer, the British platform can already wonder if it is not going straight into the wall. According to information from independent journalist Abdellah Boulma, DAZN currently has just over 100,000 subscribers. A figure which seems incredibly low, and will lead to the loss of the Netflix of sport if it were to be confirmed.

Ligue 1 can say goodbye to the bonus

DAZN may be owned by billionaire Len Blavatnik, but the goal is not to lose hundreds of millions of euros each season. This is why the sports channel gave itself two years to finance its investment, even reserving regular and flexible exit clauses which suggest that the disaster could arrive sooner than expected. In any case, with such a number of subscribers, the bonus of 50 ME planned for Ligue 1 clubs from the milestone of 1.5 million subscribers is not ready to be paid.

The journalist specifies that this figure constitutes a huge disappointment for DAZN, which did not expect to start at such a low level when promotions have been carried out in recent weeks to encourage the public to subscribe. There was recently an offer for a free week, which ends next Monday. The idea of throwing in the towel in a year and a half, at the end of the 2025-2026 season, is already in the air, unless there is enormous financial support. Abdellah Boulma mentions a possibility of investment from Saudi Arabia, without saying much more. Still, this figure demonstrates that the boycott of the sports channel in still had a huge impact, with viewers and potential subscribers sometimes having the impression of being taken for cash cows paying for subscriptions on several platforms to follow their favorite sport.
