Conference League: Cercle Bruges humiliates Saint-Gall (6-2) with a hat-trick from Kevin Denkey

If Saint-Gall was the first team to attack, it was the Bruges who opened the scoring. On a well-played counter between Denkey and Minda, the latter fired a shot into the top corner which entered with the help of the bar (3rd). There was only more for the Circle afterwards. Denkey (13th, 15th), Minda (13th) or Thibo Somers (19th) were each time close to doubling the lead. It was finally shortly before the half-hour mark that the Togolese striker, on the return leg, shook the net to put Cercle into orbit (25th). Hard blow at the half-hour mark for the Bruges who lost their goalkeeper, Warleson, to injury (32nd). Little disconcerted by this loss, the locals scored a third goal, via Denkey (43rd).

Returning from the locker room, Cercle continued their momentum, Denkey scoring a hat-trick, from the penalty spot, just before the hour mark (54th). Saint-Gall still reacted by reducing the gap with a goal from Csoboth (58th). The hope of a comeback was quickly scorched by Gary Magnée, author of a sumptuous strike into the top corner (63rd) then a madjer on an indirect free kick in the rectangle (68th). Saint-Gall managed to score a second goal at the end of the match, via Felix Mambimbi (81st).

With this big victory, Cercle takes the lead in the league phase of the Conference League. Bruges will play their next match at Vikingur Reykjavik on October 24.
